This September we launched the new Retailers Event for Grantham Business Club. I noticed that the retailers of Grantham High Street were often unable to attend our morning meetings and I didn’t think it was right that they should miss out on the fantastic opportunities Grantham Business Club offers its attendees. So, I put it to the committee, and we decided to launch a new event, specifically for retailers of Grantham.
Our launch event was held on 14th September in the function room above Finkin’s. We had a great turnout for the first event, with many businesses from around the town attending and networking with each other.
Amy Clark from Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub was our first guest speaker and talked to the businesses about the Growth Hub opportunities available. Amy talked about how the UK Shared Prosperity grants are now available for retail businesses. She hinted at new grants, events and workshops that will be soon available to business owners. The room was hooked on what Amy had to say and it was an excellent start to our keynote speaker slot.
Our second speaker was Andrew Martin, the chair of the Grantham Business Club. He spoke to us about his journey as a business owner, and how networking helped him to keep his business going during national financial crises. He also shared his “5 Steps to Networking on Purpose”, a really inciteful talk about how businesses can improve their networking skills.
We rounded off the evening with a social media top tip from Flick Hamnett-Day of Social Dragonfly. We all learned something new, and I hope that this trend continues as we grow this event.
These events will be held on the second Thursday of the month, and I’d love to see more retail business owners attend next time!
